The story of Red Sweater Project began more than a decade ago, when the community of Mungere rallied around a vision to secure the future of their children by creating educational opportunities where there were none.
Community. Trust. Growth.
Since the first class of students began their school year in 2012, the Mungere story has been one of community, trust, and growth.
What began as a single classroom building on the rural outskirts of the Tanzanian city of Arusha has unfolded into a thriving campus: three classroom buildings, offices for a growing staff, sustainable food sources, and safe water and composting systems, with much more planned.
Today. Tomorrow.
Today, we directly serve 65% of the community, with plans to expand. When we opened our doors in 2012, our capacity could serve just 40 students. Next year, the Mungere campus is poised to expand enrollment to serve more children – with a ripple effect that touches each new student’s household, community, and tribe.
And our plans aren’t small. With each step forward, we aim to match the courage and determination of the local leaders whose eagerness and commitment have made the Mungere School possible from the beginning.

Each year the Mungere School grows bigger with the support of our partners and donors. And we’re just getting started.
In our next chapter of growth, we will target the following goals:
8 additional classrooms and staff offices
2 additional science laboratories
1 library learning center
1 dining hall
additional composting toilets
installation of campus digital learning intranet
increased solar power
volleyball, handball and pickleball courts
But we can only accomplish this with your support.
