Letter from the Executive Director

2023 is off to a great start and I am so excited to share some updates with all of you!

While my time on campus over the last few years was impacted by the pandemic, I continue to be immensely impressed with how well the Mungere School has continued to flourish during these trying times. Not only were our Red Rhinos able to maintain their educational activities - they thrived!

However, probably the most impressive feat was that, once again, 100% of our Form IV graduates passed their national exams! The majority of Mungere’s graduates are the first in their families to complete high school. With these successes, we also see an increased demand for supporting our graduates on their journeys toward further education, including attending university, developing entrepreneurial and family-operated businesses, and participating in trade and job skills training programs. For the past several years, while we have facilitated a successful sponsorship program to support over 100 of our graduates in these endeavors, we have learned that it is necessary to adapt to this growing need.

With that in mind, we are proud to introduce the Red Sweater Project Beyond Academy, a new scholarship program that provides our graduates with opportunities to continue pursuing their dreams beyond high school. Similar to our sponsorship program, the Beyond Academy lends support through tuition assistance, career coaching and goal-setting, application assistance, exam scheduling, transportation for exams and interviews, and ongoing mentorship. Each of these paths is individual to the student and the program, and thus the program lengths and monetary commitments vary. By becoming a supporter of the Beyond Academy, you have the opportunity to help multiple young adults achieve their dreams and change the trajectory of their futures.

I also had the privilege of returning to Tanzania with a wonderful group of clients with Red Rhino Tours, our very own private safari tour company. Hosting members of the international community on Mungere’s campus allows us the ability to open up the world to our students, engage them in new conversations and experiences, expose them to new ideas, and meet amazing friends.

Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to sharing the year ahead with you, and hope to see you soon!

With gratitude,
Ashley Holmer

Executive Director
